Happy Martin Luther King Day, y’all. Hopefully, unlike me, you’re enjoying a day off tomorrow.

For a few weeks now, 11 apparently, Bill Janovitz has been throwing up a “cover of the week” mp3 on his blog, The Life and Time of Bill Janovitz. This week’s edition celebrates “dis Martin Lootah, da King day” and offers up the Nina Simone arrangement of “Little Girl Blue.” The accompanying vignette, about an early job in a copy shop, is irrelevant and hilarious. So I’m like (and not like) Sally — I want MLK Day off (but I, umm, know why it’s a holiday.)

Here are the other weeks:

Week 1: The Replacements’ “Little Mascara”

Week 2: Tom Waits’ “Johnsburg Illinois”

Week 3: Bruce Springsteen’s “One Step Up”

Week 4: Blondie’s “Dreaming”

Week 5: Charles Brown’s “Please Come Home for Christmas”

Week 6: Gene Clark’s “In the Misty Morning”

Week 7: Paul Simon’s “Slip Sliding Away”

Week 8: Frank Loesser’s “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?”

Week 9: The Everly Brothers’ “Like Strangers”

Week 10: Bonnie Prince Billy’s “Agnes, Queen of Sorrow”
