what im listening to right now: water liars’ phantom limb

by gregor on February 7, 2012

i believe i had heard of the band phantom limb from a year or two back, but dont believe i had the pleasure of listening to em. well, know phantom limb is water liars and the name of their upcoming record is entitled phantom limb. hows that for confusing? either way i am actually on my third listen of said record which comes out 2.28 on misra records.

i was a little skeptical at first, cause the first song, which is provided below, “$100″ starts off almost like a “grunge” song circa 1994. which is actually fine with me, but it was unexpected. after about 30 seconds it turns itself around and into a more backwoodsy pop song, then in closing it turns itself right back around to where it began. the song is great, just dont judge it on it’s opening 30 seconds. the record, at this point, is my second favorite record of the year. its only second to the fantastic dr dog record be the void – more on that record later. you know im lousy at really explaining records, but water liars kinda sound what great lake swimmers would sound like if they less influenced by nick drake and more by neil young. whatever they sound like, its great and so highly recommended.

$100

Love this!!! And you did a great job explaining their sound. Can’t wait until 2-28-12…this will be high on my list of 2012 releases if the rest of the album sounds like this song. Thanks
