what im listening to, right now: rock plaza central
while i sit here working on the tedious tasks of updating the site, i am enjoying what maybe one of the greatest snacks ever created, the pepper jack cheezit. holy shit, these things are addicting. while updating the site, and enjoying the goodness of the pepper jack cheezit, i am listening to a record that someone emailed me a few weeks back, rock plaza central’s at the moment of our most needing. i had zero expectations, going in, which is something i try to stand by, but is harder to do than it sounds. first 30 seconds of the record, i thought it sounded like califone circa quicksand…, since then, im kinda confused, but intrigued. right now, i am im on the 9th track, “holy rider,” which is reminiscent of the coroner’s gambit era mountain goats, a record i love. at this point, its a pretty great record, and as it turns out pfork gave it an 8.0 recently, which sounds about right. it reminds me a lot of palace brother’s there is no one what will take care of you, and a more lo-fi version of the wrens’ classic, meadowlands. going to keep listening…. may be a top 10 contender.
buy at the time of our most needing via paper bag records
definitely r.i.y.l: any of the above mentioned bands including tom waits
oh i can
(dont you believe the words of) handsome men
panama van halen, motherfuckers!
