holy shnikeys have i been missing out! i know southeast engine has been around for a little while now, actually since 2000 so more than a little while, but why in the hell havent i paid attention to em before? they’re on misra, one of my top 3 favorite labels, people i respect dig em, etc, etc… so im about 3/4 of the way through their latest canary, and ill be damned if aint one of the finest records i have heard this year. all go as far to say its the second best, next to isbell’s here we rest, although, and i hate to admit it, the decemberists the king is dead is right up there. anyway, its a concept record of sorts, revolving around a family in ohio as they attempt to navigate their way through the great depression, not be confused with the one we’re currently in. its definitely a rust-belt sounding record, and fits the subject matter perfectly.
buy canary via amazon or misra which you can actually buy the cassette with a digital download for 8 bucks.
