im pretty sure i spent a good amount of time with vandaveer’s 07 release, grace and speed. from what i remember it was pretty good, not great but good enough to warrant repeated listens. well dc inhabitant, mark charles heidinger (these united states/the apparitions) and his band vandaveer are back, or soon to be back, with their 8.25 release of divide & conquer. listened to it a few times over the weeks end, and its pretty great. the young lady who sings with him, and pardon me i dont know her name, has a particularly beautiful voice and their harmonies are really quite spectacular.

riyl: vic chesnutt, sparklehorse, tom waits, great lake swimmers, etc…

I agree about his backing singer, Rose Guernin (his sister!) Their harmonies really work together. She reminds me of Emmy Lou at times.
