im not sure how many local, mostly unknown and unsung record labels are out in this world, but im assuming there’s probably more than one would suspect. i’ve always wanted to partake in such activities, but that would mean i would be responsible for all the things that go into running a label, and im really not ready for such an undertaking. unless of course, i got some folks that really could give two shits about being promoted correctly and timely communication, then i would be game. until then i will leave it in the hands of the professionals, or at least those with extra free time. which leads me to elkhorn, wi label keep it together records and their 32 song/band, cassette only compilation entitled, title it yourself. the comp is made up of local elkhorn bands, national acts and those that have played at label honcho jacob’s crib, do people still say crib?, over the years. going into my initial listen, i didnt expect much other than a bunch of sniffling indie kids filling the world with barely listenable and melodramatic bedroom recordings. i was only partly correct in this assumption, there are definitely a few bedroom recordings making up the comp, but everything is pretty damn solid. sure there’s a few moments of filler, but what do you expect when you involve 32 bands who are probably relatively unknown outside of their respective zip codes? i of course may be understating their popularity, but you get the point.
the tape comes in either black or red and can be picked up for a measly 5 bucks. i kinda lied when i said it was tape only release, cause i believe you can actually request a digital copy. clicky here for ordering and other info.
