speaking of hotbeds of music, i have been getting a shitload of great stuff coming out of canada as of late. as of late meaning the past 6 months or so. regardless, of the time frame the quality of music speaks for itself. up next from america’s hat, is the western states and their 5.5 release, bye and bye. in august of 08, armed with a bunch of songs, their equipment and a voice in their collective heads that said “go south,” they made the two day long trek from winnepeg to austin. the album was recorded straight to tape with no use of any digital effects. honestly, you can hear it and the results are quite glorious. in my opinion, this is how records should be made and sound. its so freakin warm, i just want to wrap myself in it. i dont think its too early to proclaim that this will definitely be in my top 5 records of 09.
