the only sons’ american stranger

by gregor on February 12, 2011

there are a few bands out there, at least that i know of, with the talent and probably passion to produce a record or two that could be considered classics. they may not be doing it now, but like i said its up their sleeve, i just know it. one of them bands is murfeesboro’s the only sons, who just recently released their american stranger. much like their murfeesboro neighbors, glossary, every record seems to exhibit an ever growing confidence to push the band a little further than before whether it be kent eugene goolsby’s songwriting, or the super solid music that accompanies his springsteen-esque delivery/growl. part of their appeal, at least to me, is the honesty of mr goolsby’s lyrics and one minute they can seem to be on a whisky fueled bender with consequences being damned and the next song repenting from said bender. definitely one of the best records thus far of 2011, and i am gonna just go ahead and assume its gonna land in my top ten of 2011.

btw, you can still download their 09 steel hearts and kent’s solo record for free via their site, here. this one, though, is gonna cost and its more than worth it. grab it via their bandcamp site.
