Soul Asylum was in town here in Boston for Earthfest, a music/greening festival hosted by WBOS. With only a few hours of hard labor to put in on Saturday, Tommy Stinson (now on bass for SA) and Dave Pirner sandwiched in some play – and playing – at the Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain at the Figgs sold-out two-night stand.
First night, Stinson got up on bass for a few Figgs songs, including the oui-c’est bon Hayes tune, “Je T’Adore.” Second night, vid below, Stinson got up to do “My Generation,” which Soul Asylum, errr, semi-stumbled through earlier in the day at the Hatch Shell. This is semi-stumbled, too, in that perfect hole in the wall rock haunt kind of way, but with ohhhhh a couple hundred thousand fewer people were looking on. They also did the Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks,” which, save the digital monkey comments, cuts off. Pirner only jumped up momentarily during the night, on either “Happy Jack” or “Bungalow Bill” I forget.
I know there are some Figgs fans on here so I’ll try to post some of the other vids. You’ll also be glad to know our good buddy Brad of Bradley’s Almanac was at the show (fucker owes me $13 and a review of “Palais”) will be posting a full aud recording of the show in the near or far future. Good things come to those who wait (and those who buy Figgs records).
