all i know is that 9.14 cannot come soon enough. that is the date that superchunk’s majesty shredding is hitting the streets. i dont think i have been this excited for a record since i cant even tell ya. im trying to think of another artist that i would rather have a new record from. only two come to mind: bee thousand era gbv, or richard buckner. either way you can still pre-order majesty shredding via merge and if you order the vinyl you’ll get a digital download code.

firstly, if you havent heard supercunk/merge are re-releasing remastered versions of their classic records on the mouth and no pocky for kitty in august. you can read more about the process and other details here. in stores now is their hand numbered multi-colored “digging for something” 7″. the artwork was done harrison haynes of les savy fav, and again read more about that stuff here. last but not least, pre-order majesty shredding via merge. if you order the lp, you will get a digital download code at sometime, i imagine.

this is the kinda day i needed, slightly cool, overcast and rainy. i dont want to feel guilty about not leaving the house today. cause when its sunny, which it quite often is, i feel the need to go out even when i dont feel like it. so the repost fest rambles on and next up is superchunk playing at the whisky a go go, opening for hole of all bands, on 2.11.92. they really really need to get a new record out one of these days. although their leaves in the gutter was awesome enough to tide me over a little longer. buy superchunk stuff via merge.

hola, amigos! feelin a wee bit better after consuming copious amounts of campbells chicken noodle soup which for a canned soup is pretty damn yummy. still feelin off balance, but i’ll take walking into walls any day over feeling the need to vomit.
the man who should be king and is my son’s namesake, mac mccaughan under his portastatic moniker is releasing an ultra cool 2 disc comp of rarities called some small history which collects “b-sides, compilation tracks, EPs, fanzine vinyl, and previously unreleased material recorded between 1990 and 2007.” i have heard it, multiple times, and i must proclaim that it is worth every penny of the paltry 13 bucks he is charging for it. he covers ryan adams’s “oh my sweet carolina,” dylan’s “its all over now, baby blue,” galaxy 500′s “tugboat,” american music club’s “firefly,” and a bunch more.

my man, mike doughty, has a new record entitled golden delicious coming out on 2.18.08, which seems like a hella long way away. i mention this because last night, in chicago, he started his “the question jar show” tour. on this shortish tour he will take requests and answer any and all questions placed into the question jar. if anyone went to the show at schubas last night let me know how it was. even though there isnt an atlanta show, i am still curious. he plays tomorrow evening in louisville @ phoenix hall tavern. check his site for a list of dates. here is the first single from golden delicious.

andy ditzler is normally not my cup of tea, but there is something oddly endearing about him and his spoken word take on pop music. he kinda falls somewhere in between stephin merritt and ben folds, but more on the folds end of the spectrum. his songs are fun and smart, but not hokey like fun or pretentiously smart. check him out..

somewhere nestled in my top 5 favorite bands is superchunk. shit, i named my damn kid after mac – if that tells you anything. creepy? maybe. so, i was pretty damn psyched when this show from 93 showed up on dime. i dont know why, but i dont think i have ever come across a superchunk show. maybe i just dont hang in the right corners of the interwebs. if anyone has a hook up let me know.

secondly, superchunk is streaming “misfits and mistakes” on their myspace page. “misfits and mistakes” is from the aqua teen movie soundtrack, btw.
