in other news, got a hold of a copy of paper bird’s when the river took flight a few days ago, and thus far i am really diggin it. i am not really sure how to categorize their sound, there’s elements of bluegrass, rag time, and an all around feeling they reside in another place and time. which as it turns out, i am not alone in these feelings cause mr sean moeller seems to share the same sentiments. you can check out their daytrotter session here, which i didnt even know about til today. listening to said session makes em sound like they’re straight outta the the 30′s. everyone should just go a head and record everything at the daytrotter studios, cause everything always sounds incredible. here’s a couple tracks off when the river took flight.

the latest signee to the ever impressive park the van roster is lafayette, la’s brass bed. havent heard their debut, melt white – due out in september, but i am digging what i am hearing. they are touring with ex-dr dog’s juston stens & the get real gang. check the e-card w/ dates here.

anyone going to this gig? i may or may not be, but unfortunately its probably more like the latter. i do really want to see both of these guys, cause i hear they put on pretty great shows. dr dog is going to be joined by members of the rebirth brass bad, btw. tickets are 15 bucks and mynameisjohnmichael opens the nights festivities @ 9ish.

i wish i was going to this, but sadly the bride has to work. this being new orleans label, park the van’s showcase at the marigny theatre on friday night. its a record release party of sorts, or lets just call it a showcase of a few of park the van’s artists.

generationals will be playing stuff off their debut record con law which is due out in july, and judging it by these two singles, i would say that it sounds as if it could be pretty great.

the high strung, outta detroit, will be playing thirdly, and sadly i dont have anything of theirs to share, but i hear its “blissful, sun kissed guitar pop.”

shreveport’s the peekers will be headlining the nights festivities. have only heard two songs of their recently released, life in the air, but i dig their poppy beulah like ways.
