been on a huge lyle lovett kick as of late. not sure what brought it on, but im pretty sure spotify had something to do with it. i am both loving and hating spotify, for what its worth. i love the player, hate the file management. it’s so half baked. what i had to do is create playlists a, b, c, through the whole alphabet and place artist playlists in corresponding fashion. the shit should just be alphabetized out of the box. ehh, regardless back to mr. lovett. you’d be hard pressed to find a cooler dude/performer than this man. everything he does just sounds natural, never forced, like whatever he’s singing or doing is just another appendage – if that makes sense. its all about soul, too, and this guy has it comin out his ass. if you have never bothered checkin him out, i definitely recommend the road to ensenada, joshua judges ruth – which is in my top 50 of all time, and pontiac. shit, i celebrate his entire catalogue but i would start with those. btw, this show took place at the paramount theater.

try the holy water, death breath!

can someone answer me something? why is it, and this only happens half the time, when i update my ipod it sometimes alphabetizes all the “the” artists together and the sometimes, not? also, sometimes i can get it to scroll and the letters will show up on the screen and then other times, again, not. 

i am going to be in raleigh, nc for a day/night next week. can anyone recommend a good place to eat/grab a beer or two or three? keep in mind i will be with a 3 year old. thanks! 

i have been listening to oakley hall’s gypsum strings quite a bit as of late. when it came out last year i listened the hell out of it, then i just stopped. that happens quite a bit and i suppose burnout tends to happen to those of us who tend to be a bit obsessive. as it turns out they have a new record coming out on merge entitled i’ll follow you – its due out on 9.11. i didnt even know they signed to merge, or did i? its hard to keep up.

mary timony always reminded me of a little sprite. like i could scoop her up, put her in my pocket and she would sing me wonderful little sprite songs as we went about our merry way. enough with my prepubescent fantasies. mary’s got a fairly new record out called the shapes we make. i havent heard it but i am sure its grand.

in case you hadnt heard, the members of bottom of the hudson were involved in a tragic accident over the weekend when their van blew a tire killing bassist trevor butler and sending drummer greg lytle to intensive care with a fractured skull. they are accepting donations via payapl to help cover some of the medical expenses. you can make a donation via paypal using both@absolutelykosher.com.

my favorite promise ring and dismemberment plan offshoot, maritime, has leaked two tracks off their upcoming record, heresy and hotel choir. both tracks are pretty awesome which makes me even more itchy for the new record.

i love the band pulp so when any reviewer likens a band to said group i usually try and pay attention. so, when mojo likened mother and the addicts to pulp – awesome – and franz ferdinand – cant stand em – i had to at least give em a try. here’s the problem when some reckless reviewer likens a band to both a band i like and one i cant stand, i can only hear the band i cant stand. i got hang ups, i know. at this point i dont hear pulp other than the fact that they may share the same accent.
