Glossary – Save Your Money for the Weekend from Stewart Copeland on Vimeo.
this is off their most excellent feral fire. as a reminder joey and friends will be playing at my crib a week from today, 8.10. costs 10 bucks to get in, and should be a great time. so if you are in new orleans and want to come to the show, let me know.
Tags: feral fire, glossary, joey kneiser, new orleanswas thinking bout this today. so i figured i’d put my picks to paper, or internets as it were. there’s been a lot of great stuff, but not too much that has that amazed me. now the question being, would i rather have 2 or 3 amazing records, and the rest so-so, or 10 great records, but maybe no amazing records? i think i would take the latter, but thats just my feeling right now.
the futurebirds record keeps getting better and better with each listen, and i am more than super pissed that i missed em last week. if you cant find something to like or love about it, we probably wouldnt be friends. american aquarium’s small town hymns falls into the same category. first listen i thought it was nice enough, but now that im a few months into it, man its a great piece of no bullshit rock n roll. same with gaslight anthem’s american slang, which i keep hearing isnt as good as their first two, but man it scratches me right where i itch. i dont care if it may sound half-baked, or samey, cause its an awesome summer record, or maybe the soundtrack to kickin some ass, and takin some names, and best played full blast. glossary’s feral fire, well they’re just a perfect model of consistency. i hate to use the term, but “all killer, no filler” on feral fire. the real surprise though is palomino. as i stated a couple of days ago, i have dug their previous output, but this record has really hit home. my co-worker today stated that if he had to listen to it for more than an hour, he’d go crazy. its manic, for sure, but there’s a calm if you listen close enough.

thus far, me and this time change aint seein eye to eye. sure i dig that it stays lighter out later, but waking up while its still dark out, not awesome and find it very hard to accomplish. anywho, glossary’s feral fire has been out for over a month now, and i have barely even spoken of it. bad fan, i am…. expectations were high, no doubt. their better angels of our nature was my second favorite record of 07, which also came in at 24 in my favorite records of the 00′s and joey kneiser’s solo record, the all-night bedroom revival, has been in heavy, heavy rotation since december.
im gonna start off with my only complaint in regards to feral fire, and its a pretty minor one. “through the screen door” shouldnt have been re-done for feral fire. the version that appears on joey’s …bedroom revival is perfect, lyrically, musically, atmospherically, etc. if i had never heard this version, my complaint would be moot, but alas i have and so it stands. so, yeah thats my only complaint, the rest of feral fire is a rollicking good time. they make music that makes me feel good. that makes me wanna partake in a few drinks and bullshit with friends. that and this may sound queer, but i always end up in a better mood after listening to em, even if its ever so slight – the mood that is. they probably wont ever be on the top of the hype or elbo.ws charts, and thats a god damn shame – or maybe it isnt, but if you love the rock and the roll, i dont think there are many bands out there doing it better. make sure you check em out at sxsw.

yeah, im really late on this one, well a month or so, but late nonetheless. this being joey kneiser’s solo record, the all-night bedroom revival, which if i would have heard it earlier probably would have been in my top ten. joey, by the way, is the lead singer for murfeesboro, tn’s glossary, who are releasing their feral fire on 2.2. best of all the all-night bedroom revival is free, and definitely worth the download. here’s a couple tracks and/or click here to grab the record – warning download will start automatically.
