happy friday! we took an impromptu camping trip to grand isle, la thus the lack of posting. its an interesting slice of land and drive, for sure.
sadly, for as much of a califone and red red meat fan that i am, i am pretty sure the existence of tim hurley and danni osello’s sin ropas has slipped right by me. with that said, they have a new one that came out recently on shrug records and have entitled it, holy broken. i started listening to it the other night, got a few songs into and it was exactly as i expected it to be, and thats not a bad thing, at all. fan of both bands and their other offshoots should dig this.

the upcoming re-release/re-packaging of seminal chicago outfit red red meat’s long out of print 1995 release bunny gets paid came as a bit of surprise to me. firstly, i was surprised that it was out of print. secondly, i thought to myself is there such a cacophonous call for the re-release of bunny gets paid that it also warrants a second disco of material? i must add that i welcome the the re-release of any red red meat record but i thought that the muddy blues influenced jimmy wine majestic or the experimental folky sounds ofthere’s a star above the manger tonight would have been better representations, but what the hell do i know? i asked whoever mans the subpop twitter acct regarding the reasoning behind the re-release and they proclaimed that it was a “labor of love.” fair enough, me thinks. fyi, the members of red red meat more or less became califone and the latter album would serve as a blueprint or at very least a path for then upcoming califone releases. for more on red red meat, et al click here.
the deluxe re-issue of bunny gets paid can be pre-ordered here via subpop and is out on 3.24.
