hey baton rouge peoples! my man cory branan is coming to our fair city tomorrow night at the hartley vey theatre in support of his most excellent new record, mutt. i wrote about the record a month or so back, which you can check out here and i said in the “review” that it was a “grower” and i definitely still stand by that. still its definitely one of the best records i have heard this year. i have never seen him live, but i hear he’s one of the best. so dont miss out on this one!

y’all probably know how i feel about remixes, and if you dont, ill lay it out simply, i usually hate em. the only remixes i like are public enemy remixes from the late 80′s – early 90′s. granted there are a few i like, but the majority, not so much. so, when i heard about a remix of probably my favorite song of the year “get me in room,” off my favorite record of the year no one knows what happens next, i had to check it out. its cool, i could do without the rapping, cause i dont think it necessarily fits, but i dig the beats.

i have known mr martin rivas for a lot of years, or at least it seems like it. we met via the wilco message board via chicago back when i visited on an almost unhealthy basis – which was about 7 years ago at this point. either way, i knew mart was a musician but never really bothered to check out his work. silly me, or more like lazy me.

first off, i am a person who hold grudges, childish as they may be, i still hold em. i have tried for the past 5 years or so to get on the suburban home pr list and you know what i have been met with? silence…. i am only trying help, is that so wrong? so, i am breaking my suburban home boycott to talk about arliss nancy’s newest release simple machines cause its a fantastic fucking record.

y’all know, well those that frequent this joint, that i have a man crush on timothy showalter who is strand of oaks. its not really a crush on him, even though he’s an awesome dude, but his music. to me, its some of the most honest stuff that is being recorded today. his new single entitled “maureen’s” from his forthcoming dark shores continues that trend. i am not sure whats going on, if anything, in mr showalter’s life but its hard not to take “maureen’s” at face value. maybe its purely 3rd person kind of stuff, but to me it sounds too personal. either way, this song is breaking my heart. cannot wait for dark shores. im guessing top ten material without a doubt.
you can download “maureen’s” via the link below or via his bandcamp page.

yesterday, on twitter kathleen edwards posted a tweet which half i cant remember, but the other half was that she stated that her label had stopped promoting her record. at that point, i thought, shit i had not done anything on it and i listen to it quite often cause its quite marvelous. then i started thinking, have i ever done anything one said woman and her music? as it turns out, in 7 years, i have not. really a fucking shame cause she’s really great. i have been a fan since her debut which was in 93 or 94 and is entitled, failer and also her subsequent releases asking for flowers and back to me.

it is with my great pleasure to premiere the video for hallelujah the hills’ “nightingale lightning,” the second single off what i think is going to end being my favorite record of the year, no one knows what happens next. i have been listening to it non-stop since i first laid ears on it a few months back, and dammit there’s a reason for that! its a great freakin record. sure i was a fan of their two previous records, but this seems like a whole different band, and one finally realizing their collective greatness. do yourself a favor and grab it, now!
buy no one knows what happens next for a measly $5.96 via their bandcamp site and check out the tour dates right down there.
