stephen dawson @ 400 bar, 8.18.05
during my 30 years in chicago, i was witness to a lot shows, by a lot of bands. i would guess that between 1988 and 2003 i saw at least 400+ bands perform, and maybe attended 700 shows. whether thats a lot, i dont know? but one band that i saw more than most is dolly varden, who is a staple in the chicago scene. i dont know if they ever broke out much past the 60618, 60622, 60647, etc zip codes but stephen dawson and his band dolly varden have been a chicago constant for as long as i can remember – at least since 96 or so. during that time i saw a lot of dolly varden shows. they would show up seemingly everywhere, and whether i liked em or not i probably saw em at least 50-60 times. i maybe wrong on that count, but i think i am pretty close. if you have never heard of either steve or his band dolly varden i highly recommend checking em out.
