as of late i really have been revisiting stuff from my favorite musical era, 88-95ish, and thus my love of the first two pumpkins records has been sort of re-ignited. not that i never stopped loving em, but the last 14 years have not been kind to the pumpkins franchise. all of which had left a pretty sour taste in my mouth regarding all things smashing pumpkins. but i am trying to look past/over this time period and just learn to accept that maybe all they had in em was two classic records. which, i suppose, is two more than 98% percent of the bands out there have in them. still, i’d be lying if i didnt admit that i am a bit disappointed….

here they are on 6.30.93 live at vpro radio studios in the netherlands.

1. spaceboy
2. dancing in the moonlight
3. rocket
4. cherub rock
5. today
6. disarm

The 1st 2 SP albums are stunning, Mellon Collie is awesome too… you also need to remember all the b-sides they delivered… that 4-5 year period makes them one of alt. rock’s best – I admit everything after Mellon Collie was crap, give or take a few songs.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is definetly a 3rd classic album and probably their masterpiece in my opinion.

i go back and forth with mellon collie. for a while i really got into it, then as of late its just a hot mess. a hot mess that i still dig, but its kind of worn out its welcome, for now.
