Loved this last time you posted it. Where do you recommend starting with his studio albums? The sheer size is intimidating!
hey danny, i would start w either devotion and doubt or since. although my favorite may be the hill. the hill is one long track, or at least it used to be, of richard taking on edgar lee masters’ spoon river anthology. he took masters’ words and put them to music and its glorious. if you have never heard of spoon river anthology its a collection of poems revolving around dead inhabitants of a fictional illinois city called spoon river. they come back from the dead and tell their respective causes of death. sounds a bit morbid, and it is, but again its brilliant.
If there are any boots of his recording from ’97, I would give pretty much anything. I saw him open for Son Volt at Irving Plaza on that tour and it was the best show I’ve ever seen him give. Eric Heywood on steel and JD Foster on bass, and Marc Ribot came out for part of the set. Jaw dropping.
And Danny: Devotion & Doubt and Since are two of the very best records of all time, in a world where Richard Buckner gets his due.
I mean boots of his shows.
This is great. Thank you!
One question…What happen to tracks 18-19 on disc one?
18 song of 27
19 gauzy dress in the sun
I am really enjoying this!
@Danny
Try Dents & Shells, then Our Blood, then Meadow, then Bloomed. Then whatever else you can get your hands on.
