The new THS is decent, but it’s a struggle. It’s a snapshot of a band that isn’t sure what they want to do. Stay Positive was decent too, but misguided. It’s clear that they’re tiring of being the “anthem band,” but I don’t think they know where they want to go really. It doesn’t help that Franz isn’t there to help nudge them, nor does it help that Craig Finn’s lyrics are starting to sound stale. He’s a better writer than to keep using the same references.
It’s good, it’s just confused.
where’s lifter puller when you need them
HiW has been frustrating me since the day it leaked. 10 spins later, i think it’s that my expectations got too high. on one hand… “we’re good guys but we can’t be good every night” makes me wanna puke. and on the other, there’s 6 songs so good i havent even started looking for the 45 adapter for cooley’s rsd single. i think i just have to accept there’s gonna be 2 or 3 that i skip on each ths album.
With the exception of 2 or 3 songs, I haven’t felt a strong connection just yet.
I must be the only guy that liked Stay Positive a whole bunch. It may be my favorite of their albums. Slapped Actress, Joke About Jamaica, Magazines, Sapphire, etc. There are only 2 or 3 songs on the album that I was a bit meh on.
I liked SP too, but it was a “written on the road” album. The tone was kind of off, and the songs were weary. Not to say I didn’t like it, but it was misguided in my opinion.
[...] for live Radiohead tracks, I found a nice show from their early days. Captain’s Dead has a nice recording of a show at Huddersfield University from 1992. What a piece of nostalgia this is. Plus Johnny Greenwood actually plays guitar. Amazing… [...]
