minky starshine vs cat power

oh glorious freakin day! nothing like some good ol’ sunny pop music to brighten a mood – and the way i am feeling right now, i need it. im currently listening to minky starshine’s recently released unidentified hit record and i must contend that this is more than aptly titled. just about every track on here is hook-laden power pop goodness that, in a perfect world, would and could dominate the airwaves of your local top 40. think fountains of wayne but way less annoying. for the recording process minky teamed up with ken stringfellow (posies, big star) in paris at le domicile studio, and with chris manning (jellyfish, guster) out at salamander sound in california. if we are judged by the company we keep then minky starshine should be golden.

unidentified hit record is released by 75orless records, and can be purchased here.

here is a really nice cat power recording taken from the noise pop fest. two things about this, as you can see its one file, but me thinks this particular performance is worth listening to all the way through.

cat power @ noise pop, 2.26.03

Any chance of a reup on the Cat Power Noise Pop fest? Your efforts are much appreciated!
