justin townes earle live in madison, new stuff
if there was a day when i just felt like throwin up the ol hands and sayin “fuck it, i give up,” yesterday was one of em. nothing serious, mind you, but the petty and unnecessary bullshit really weighs heavily on my nerves. i deal much better with major setbacks, than the trivial. eh, whatevs….
justin townes earle’s bloodshot release midnight at the movies has dominated my listening for the past week or so, and shows no signs of letting up. i dig yuma and the good life, but there’s something about midnight at the movies that strikes a chord with me. the songwriting seems a bit more personal and the music is a bit more varied then the previous two. “mama’s eyes,” alone is worth the price of admission, as his cover of the mats’ “cant hardly wait.” this is definitely going to be a top 5 contender. highly recommended!
here’s a couple tracks off midnight at the movies and below that is a show from der rathskeller – uw memorial union in the lovely city of madison, wi on 3.29.08. its a soundboard, btw and thanks to morst for the recording, which is also available in flac, here. he plays tonight in austin at stubbs with old crow medicine show.

checking this out. Seems song 5 is a repeat of 4? I hear you on the new one. This guy has found his voice. The newest is head and shoulders above his previous stuff. I had my mouth open watching him open for Jason Isbell. His voice was unreal. Not many can cover “can’t hardly wait”. He pulls it off.
that sure as hell was a repeat. its been fixed. yeah man, thanks again, but this is definitely his best stuff yet. as much as i liked red cortez i would have much rather had seen him.
not quite sure HOW i haven’t heard of him before today!
it’s right up my alley…
thanks for posting!!
