oh happy monday, actually not really. i guess i can look at this way, i only work 3 days this week. not that it means shit, but pfork thought it necessary to give kanye’s new record a 10. i have heard it, listened to it more than 10 times, and there is no way in fucking hell that its worthy of a 10. again, dont mean shit, as pfork stopped being relevant, at least to me, in 2004. still a 10!?!? crazy talk. anyway, i got a re-up request of the this joanna newsom show @ the bottletree in b’ham.

Gotta agree with you about the Kanye record. I’ve heard it for almost three weeks now, and it’s a decent album, but it ain’t no “Astral Weeks”. I’ve actually been thinking about how ratings and reviews in general are worthless now (even on my own blog) because we don’t listen to music in the same way anymore. Nowadays, all of us have heard records way before places like Pitchfork even post reviews and ratings, so they don’t effect anything. I’m also with you about Pitchfork’s relevance. Yeah, they are relevant for artists who want to get some publicity. And that’s always good. But for me, I used to love Pitchfork when they were a small beacon in the night. Now they’ve become one giant bloated ego. I don’t care about their ratings. I’m not jealous of their site. I only wish them the best. I think their writers are fine. It’s nothing like that. What I don’t like now about Pitchfork is its neglect of the people who read the site. They still don’t allow reader comments (which is the first sign of a site that could care less about the people who read it) and they seem to think they’re the coolest people on earth. For example, Ryan Schreiber wrote on his Twitter today, “screams from the haters” and “enjoying early reactions to our kanye review. bring on the conspiracy theories!” Dear god, what an ego. Just the other day, one of their writers posted a video of Sufjan Stevens from his performance on Fallon’s show. The text said, “Fallon looked befuddled.” (As if only the people of Pitchfork could understand the weighty depths of Sufjan’s music.) That’s the kind of indie snobbery I’ve come to dislike over the years.
