i like this kid, markland starkie, and his sleeping states. he states that he has a real issue with the whole singer-songwriter genre and finds it “cheesy beyond belief.” now, i am not to sure what he’s doing to change anyone’s perceptions of the dreaded singer-songwriter genre but it sounds good to me.

I’ve been listening all morning at work (I’m a guidance counselor at a high school), and a kid came in to talk guiding, and asked me, “hey, what’s that?” and I thought, how ironic” “It’s Guided by voices.” so, today, I not only guided in the college process, but in the musical education of a brave young rock ‘n roller, who, by the way, said they would be checking out not only your site, but GBV as well.

Thanks for putting this up. I really wish this album had been one of the big studio productions they ended up doing because there are so many great songs here. Sweeping bones is a good example of how Bob can write such great songs but yet they never really make it past the demo process. I’m taking this disc to work tomorrow!
Where did these tracks even come from? Most of them I’ve heard so far are different versions than the ones on the Suitcases. And a couple are totally new to me. This is awesome. Now do 88′s Learning to Hunt and 91′s Back to Saturn X.
