firstly, down yonder we have the brand spankin new video from, you guessed it, holopaw and their oh so lovely tune, “golden years,” which is off their most recent misra release, academy songs vol 1. i have always loved stop animation, merely for the fact that its something i could never have the patience to do, which makes me respect those doing it even more. former holopaw keyboardist, beachwolf, created the video, and i must say the world he created perfectly fits with the spirit and delicacy of the song.

secondly, misra records family members, holopaw and sleeping states recently came together to release a very cool split 12″. it was released in june which happens to be lgbt pride month, and both front men, john orth of holopaw and markland starkie of sleeping states are openly gay men. a portion of the proceeds from the album sales go to the point foundation – an orginization that was designed to help lgbtq students achieve their potential.

in regards to the music, and in layman’s terms, its super great. side a is sleeping states reworking of older material which is called old vs new. on the b side is the brian deck, w/ some help from califone’s benny massarella, produced holopaw tune, “through til morning.” said song is actually a reworking of academy songs vol 1; but, shrunken down into a 9+ minute song, and that is why i love brian deck. btw, if you didnt know, mr orth was actually in ugly casanova w/ brian deck. you can hear “through to the morning,” via spin and sleeping states “planning my escape” via out, both publications doing very nice write-ups on the record.

buy the holopaw/sleeping states split via misra. oh and also pick up academy songs vol 1 via misra or amazon

Haunting track. Dig the chorus — gives the song an enjoyable tone.
