UPDATE: YOU MAY EXPERIENCE SOME SLOWNESS AND/OR BRIEF DOWNTIMES TODAY AS THIS POST WAS MENTIONED ON USA TODAY’S POP CANDY (THANKS, WHITNEY!) AND THUS EXPERIENCING HUGE AMOUNTS OF TRAFFIC. TRYING TO WORK THROUGH IT….

i think it goes without saying that if you are a child of the 80’s at least one john hughes film, if not most of em, made some kind of impact on your life. for me, my hands down favorite hughes film is vacation, which remains in my top 5 favorite films of all time. i of course didnt get a lot of the jokes, but what i did get was christie brinkley – who at the time was the most gorgeous creature i had ever laid my eyes on. its amazing the kind of impression the thought of a beautiful woman skinny dipping can do to such a young lad. the great thing about vacation is that it grew up with me, i didnt grow out of it. most of which is due to my love of sophomoric humour, which hasnt changed since i was 9. as i aged, i got the jokes and innuendos, and christie brinkley was staying forever hot, which only deepened my appreciation for it. i am sure i am due for a vacation like experience one day, i just got a feeling….

and of course, there is ferris bueller’s day off, which oddly enough never got a proper soundtrack release. hughes felt that the diverse collection of songs wouldnt work so well together. so, somewhere along the line a fan or fans created this unofficial soundtrack taking the songs and intermingling them with soundbites from the film.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is probably my favorite. Vacation and Christmas Vacation are closely behind. Remember Chevy Chase was funny?

    RIP John..sad news indeed.

Thank you so much for this – so many songs I had been looking for. Hughes was a big influence on me as were all the movie brats of that era – I am sad that many will be revisiting his work after his passing, I dreamed once that guys like me who grew up on his work would pave the way for his comeback. R.I.P. John Hughes.

[...] 3) Some folks have posted various tracks from Hughes’ films.  Here is a good attempt at developing the soundtrack to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. [...]

Thank you for this. However, please let me get what I want is the Smiths.

  • The Rev. Ug on August 11th, 2009 at 12:10 am

Dream Academy’s version of Smiths song is used in this film.

The ‘Beat City’ version is incorrect. Try the 80s site to hear the correct one.

The URL for the first MP3 track is wrong – it has two http’s in it … easy to fix if you catch it, but many might not. Thank you!

This is DJ D from Retro Remixes. Here’s a repost of our Ferris Bueller podcast. A small tribute to the late, great John Hughes.

Hope everyone can catch it before the bandwith is up. If you miss it, bookmark the page and the bandwith will roll back over in about a month.

Thanks to Greg for letting me post this.

This is great but unfortunately, so much of it is wrong. For instance, the song by the The (English) Beat used in the movie was an instrumental version of Rotating Head which was called “March of the Swivelheads”. You’ve also used the wrong version of The Flowerpot Men’s Beat City. I could go on but you get the point. If you’re interested in having the right editions of the right songs, let me know. It took me years to put together the collection.

  • Alan on November 14th, 2009 at 9:13 pm

One of the versions of Dream Academy’s “Please…” is instrumental and the later version is the vocal track. I don’t know if both are included in the film or not. Also, on IMDB, it shows that in the movie credits, in the music section, The WLS (Chicago radio station) jingle is given credit. So unless it’s included in one of the dialogue snippets, I submit that this STILL isn’t complete!! :D

thanks all for the corrections, comments, truly much appreciated. as i stated above, i didnt put this together, and really dont care that much that its wrong or incomplete. to me its just fun to have. if you have a better version please do share with the class. xoxoxo greg
