since my move to new orleans, i have really attempted to expand my musical horizons. i have been listening to wutl which plays everything from you run of the mill indie rock to new orleans inspired joints, and honestly its awesome. most definitely the best radio station i have ever tuned into. if i can some of this stuff that wutl plays, i am going to make every attempt to post it, cause i really think that a lot of you may dig it as much as i do. this is assuming that if you visit on a regular basis our musical tastes fall in line, for the most part.
honestly, i dont know much about dr john outside of the fact that he is from new orleans originally – he moved to la when he was 23 or at least thats what wikipedia would lead me to believe. but, even before i moved here i always associated his stylings with new orleans. so, i figured it would be a good place to start. here is part one of a live fm broadcast from ultrasonic studios in hempstead, new on 11.6.73.

Hey Captain, a suggestion for you? I don’t know many of the artists you put forward, and so either I download all the songs (costing you bandwidth), or I skip it for the posts with one or two songs only. Can you recommend a song if it is a big playlist for one artist? That way, I can get my feet wet, and you can save unnecessary download charges. I trust your judgement, so maybe put a check or asterisk beside one that you found to be a standout for the artist? Just an idea…great blog as always:)
Dr. John is the SHIT baby!!! Oh yes…you have hit the Tart’s funky bone :) Thanks for digging this out, made my night totally xoxoxo
And “that guy”…. start with “Put a Little Love In Your Heart” for classic 1973 era goodness.
kissessssssssssssss!
Love this era of Dr. John, so thanks for this set.
All of his records up to 1974 are stone solid, but his real early “Night Tripper” LPs from the late 60s are mind blowers. I posted his second LP over at the Heat Warps a while back. Check it out: http://theheatwarps.blogspot.com/2007/10/dr-john.html
that guy, i will attempt to do such a thing, but dont worry about my bandwidth. i currently have more than enough. tart, glad youre diggin it. i dont even own or have heard an entire dr john record, which is a shame, but plan on checking a few out. thanks jr will definitely check that out.

Thanks Tart, with that moniker, I should follow with “…the money’s on the dresser” :)
