paisley

in case you havent heard, you can stream wilco’s wilco (the album) in its entirety via wilcoworld. for those that have heard it, what you think? i am still trying to formulate a point of view on the record.

like most publications now-a-days, decatur, ga based paste magazine is in deep shit. later today they are going to launch a help save paste campaign which will consist of exclusive downloads for your donation. thanks to tessa @ driveafastercar for the heads up.

if you are in chicago, or feel like making the roadtrip, chin up chin up, who produced one of my favorite records of the past 10 years or so will be performing their final show at the empty bottle this thursday, 5.15. btw, that record is called we should have never lived like we were skyscrapers. buy it, download it, whatever just listen to it. tiny mix tapes has an interview with jeremy bolen re: the breakup, etc.

here’s a couple tracks from it
we should have never lived like we were skyscrapers
virginia dont drown

toronto native doug paisley’s recently thrill jockey released self titled debut is an interesting one, for sure. i wouldnt call it a country record, but i wouldnt call it a folk record, and i wouldnt call it a country-folk record, but it sure as hell sounds like all of those lazy labels. this is definitely a grower, and is best suited with a decent set of headphones. there’s a lot going on beneath the surface that makes it even better when you pick up on these subtleties.

you can hear all of it via thrill jockey.

what about us?

Liking the new Wilco… early fave song for me is “I’ll Fight”. Overall a different and fresh step for Wilco (the band)…

that joke will not get old any time soon :)

yeah, that joke is keeper… i think im enjoying it? i do know that i dig it much more than i did sky blue sky which is a snooze fest. here’s my prob with em and its mostly my fault. i have set possibly unreal expectations for them. they have made 3 of my favorite records of all time and thus every record has a set of standards, that in my mind, they must attain. maybe this one will grow on me in a way that sbs didnt?

I like the new Wilco quite a bit after 2 listens. Then again, I liked SBS as well. Being There is still probably my favorite but they really haven’t made an album that I didn’t like. A clunker or two on AGIB and SBS. We’ll see how this one holds up to multiple listens.
