courtney jaye's "box wine"

Posted by doubter on Thursday, September 9th, 2010

courtney jaye blew into my life like an oily and humid breeze off the gulf, but once i put on her the exotic sounds of… i was immediately transported to a place where the mixed drinks flowed freely, feet were firmly planted in sand and my ass was firmly planted in a chaise lounge. she’s from nashville, grew up in atlanta? and may call kauai, hawaii home. if you’re a musician, i can only imagine living in said places would make for an interesting collection of influences. taking these influences, and putting them down to record, at least in my mind, wouldnt make for a very cohesive collection of songs. you can probably figure out where i am going with this. the exotic sounds is like nothing i have heard before, and there may be a million records out here combining nashville and hawaiian sounds, but i havent heard one. sufficed it to say, i love it. her gorgeous voice, great songwriting, and the overall tropical/country – tropicalcountry as she calls it – vibe of the entire record makes it a must listen, at least to these ears. you can purchase it via itunes – warning itunes will open by clicking that.

btw, forgot to mention ben bridwell shows up dueting with courtney on a cover of jesus and mary chain’s “sometimes always.”
