the afghan whigs' "true love travels on a gravel road"

Posted by gregor on Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

i’ve been feeling a bit nostalgic as of late, and for really no reason that i can think of. still, its been going on, and i’ve been rediscovering stuff that at one held a significant place in my heart/mind/whatever at one time. its not to say that they still dont, but time changes everything as we all understand. my favorite song, for many a year, was the afghan whigs version of the elvis presley’s “true love travels on a gravel road.” it was released via sub pop on their covers ep, uptown avondale, which is so worth tracking down.

highway 61 revisited revisited

Posted by gregor on Monday, April 12th, 2010

happy monday! i never thought i would be so happy to be at work as i am today. the wife worked two doubles this weekend so it was me and the raging lunatics all weekend. sure we had some fun, but damn if by about 5 pm yesterday, i had had enough. btw, dont ever google “skeeter eater” when your child is around, it aint pretty. in my defense though, he wanted to see pictures of the bugs that eat mosquitos and wanted to me to google that particular phrase.

found this over the weekend, and as the title suggests it comes from uncut and was put out in 05, i believe. i dont think it was ever for sale, per se, but if you want to buy it in all its cd glory someone is selling it on amazon for 143 bucks.

drive by truckers – like a rolling stone
marc carrol – tombstone blues
paul westerberg – it takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry
richmond fontaine – from a buick 6
willard grant conspiracy – ballad of a thin man
american music club – queen jane approximately
dave alvin – highway 61 revisited
the handsome family – just like tom thumb blues
songdog – desolation row
(240)
