i have always loved jay farrar in whatever incarnation there of. his work with tupelo was much stronger than tweedy’s, and i even think with their last record Okemah that the son volt catalogue is as strong as his former bandmates. although tweedy gets all the love, farrar silently piles on strong release after strong release. maybe i am high, but in the last year i have come to enjoy his work more than tweedy’s. its hard to not to lump the two together, and i know its lazy journalism. admittedly, i am a lazy fuck. here is their recent performance at chicago’s taste of randolph st on 6.16.06. i was at the first randolph st fest, morphine played RIP, and vowed never to go back.
