so, yeah here i am back on dry land. ummm, about that cruise…. it was great yet absolutely fucking horrifying. long and short of it is this. we made it down w/o any issue and in fact you can barely feel the boat move unless you are sitting down and only then do you just feel a slight rumbling of the engines, maybe? i, of course, was still a wee bit nervous so i barely slept the first night even though, again, it didnt even feel like we were moving. actually the lack of any kind of feedback was slightly unnerving for some reason. it takes 40 hours to get to cozumel, which is way too fucking long in my opinion. the boat was pretty packed, and the clientele, well, they were something special. thats not to say i/we didnt meet some cool peoples, but on a whole they caused some serious sensory overload. we got to cozumel on saturday morning around 6.30 am and it was windy as hell. once you’re off the dock you walk through a little avenue of shops that clearly was funded by carnival and the other cruise lines, cause its 100 percent cheese. there was nothing “authentic” about their attempts to recreate the mexican culture. we spent the majority of the day on beach which was absolutely fine by me. i started drinking at 8.30, which in hindsight wasnt one of my finest decisions, but i have come to terms with my lack of poor decision making. we headed into town for some food and maybe purchase some of the local’s wares. food was ok, i was expecting better and i think our cab driver was in cahoots with the restaurant owner. walking around the “centro” makes you feel like a new inmate at a federal pound-you-in-the-ass prison. i understand they got a make money, but its a little much. also, their shits expensive. ok, im starting to ramble so im going to wind it up. we were due back at the ship by 4.30 and were scheduled to leave by 5. due to the high winds we werent able to leave until 9 cause their was a ship next to us in port that we would have probably been pushed into by the winds if we attempted to leave. at about 6ish, i started not feeling so hot. it may have been a combination of a lot of things, but needless to say i ended up hugging the toilet. so, here i am not feeling well and once we finally launch we were welcomed with high winds and 15-17 foot waves. we also had to make up the 3 hours we lost, so they had the boat at its top speed which just made the effects of the wind and the waves even worse. the kids, of course, slept right through it, me not so much. in fact i ended up at the casino bar drinking sprites and chain smoking, which im sure was awesome for my already ailing stomach. next day though at about 10 am, the waves and wind subsided and everything returned to normal, thankfully. just realized this is really one long, run on sentence… so, in closing, we had a good/great time, yet at times i wanted to commit hari-kari. btw, if you care to see pics from said excursion click here.

hope everyone had a lovely weekend. mine was uneventful as per usual, but ive grown to accept that my days of raising cain to all hours of the morning are over. at 35, it was bound to happen, as you could expect.

i’m not exactly sure where this year has gone, but im not too amused that thanksgiving is next week. i dont about the rest of you, but this year has really been a big blur for me. from getting settled in in new orleans, to my wife now working fulltime, to raising these god damn kids, to everything else life has thrown at me, its been the best of times, and well the worst of times. worst is a bit of overstatement but still there have been a few days….
