cat power tomorrow in atlanta & gbv in athens

for those in atlanta, cat power backed by the memphis rhythm band will be performing at the variety tomorrow evening, the 12. she will then head off to chicago on the 13. i think i am going to attend, but i have been hearing not so great things about this current crop of performances. so, as much i want to see her/them, i hate the awkwardness that could possibly be associated with this affair. anyone going to hit this up?

in other local concert news, band of horses are visiting the variety on sunday. a show in which i may or may not be attending. my wife and her two brothers will definitely be there, but if i cant get a baby sitter then my ass will be firmly planted on my couch.? Sufjan, is playing at the fabulous fox theatre on 20th. the wrens, now its overhead and todd snider will be invading the variety on the 23 and then on the 24 and also a part of the paste festival, eric bachmann, richard buckner, and beruit will be performing.

A casual listener can tell that GBV lead singer Bob Pollard gets increasingly drunk during the course of the show. (We are talking about a man who drinks a 24 pack onstage.) If you’re a GBV fan you won’t mind. If you haven’t heard them before, I

if she’s backed by a band, i’m sure it will be better than her show in MPLS (solo). fuckin’ boooooorrrrrriiiiiing.

The show was fantastic. I was literally the first person in the door, as I had shown up early having never been to the Variety Playhouse and wanting to get a good view. Chan sang ‘Crazy’ by Gnarls Barkley, and Naked If I Want To.
