captains dead’s top 30 records of the decade, 21-30

gregor | August 28th, 2009 - 10:51 am

well, hey here is the remainder of my top 30 records of the 00′s. is it odd that the truckers take up 4 spots out of said 30? that either says to me that i need to expand my horizons a wee bit more, or they happen to put out stuff that i love, a lot. im leaning towards its more of the latter. im sure i have missed a few, but if i have missed em then could they truly be considered a favorite?

Half Smiles of the Decomposed is probably my favorite of the latter-day Guided By Voices. I think it’s got some of Uncle Bob’s best songs and he did away with a lot of the prog stuff he’s explored to death the past 10 years or so.

yeah def alex. pretty much everything since do the collapse was kinda, and i hate to say this, questionable. of course each record had glimpses of brilliance, but there was way too many songs that didnt make sense at least in terms of their placement on record.

I am still studying on your list, but I wanted to tell you that “Little Caney” grabbed me right away. I went to the Glossary website and got the album. (Looks like they have a new one coming out later this month.) Thank you, thank you!

definitely a worthwhile pickup, and considering its free that only sweetens the deal. i love it cause its just straight rock with no fucking around. its not trying to be something its not, and i love it for that. really looking forward to the new one, which i thought was coming out shortly, but turns out not til next year.
