anderso

since moving to new orleans, i have found myself listening to the radio quite a bit more than i did in atlanta and chicago. i think it maybe the fact that the two stations i listen to, wutl and wwoz, opt to play music, good music to boot, and not mess up the experience with obnoxious dj’s. sometime in the past few weeks, i had something happen to me that hasnt happened in many many years. i got home and actually stayed in the car to listen to an entire song. like i said, that hasnt happened in forever. in fact, i cant remember the last time in happened. that song was “lucky one” by new orleans native, anders osborne. im not gonna say its the greatest song i have ever heard, but its a damn fine song and i really dig his voice. sadly, i havent gotten around to listening to any of his other work, just this song. anyone familiar with his stuff? good place to start?

lucky one off coming down

I haven’t heard any of his recent stuff but I knew he was still very active in NO. He used to play in Gainesville back in the early 90’s and I bought several of his CD’s during that time. He was signed to a major label for one of those, if I remember correctly. I still have all of the cd’s as a matter of fact (Break the Chain, Osborne Orchestra are two that I remember). I also know quite a few of his songs are still on the iPod.

yeah, i have seen him performing here quite a bit but have yet to check him out. sampled some stuff on amazon and his stuff sounds all over the board, which could be good, or bad. definitely going to check out a record or two..

A fantastic Anders CD is “Which Way To Hear.” While he’s become part of the NOLA scene, he’s actually from Sweden. When he started out, he was with the also great, Swedish and now NOLA-based Theresa Andersson.

Hey Y’all! I was just trying to find what to Put in My Ear this morning, and here you are!
You will enjoy getting to know Anders. I have seen him at least a half dozen times, and if he comes your way you must go check him out. Really, he’s that good. I always thought of him as a guitarists. No lie, you need to see him play. And his band is Simply Smoking, Bad to the MFKN BONE.

And his ex-wife Jeff mentioned? Theresa Andersson? Whoa! You gotta see her too. Check out this:

You should see here with her band too.

Needless to say here is Ander’s myspace page:

I don’t care where he’s from, he’s from New Orleans. We love him to bits.

Thanks for this post, Noble Mon.

My favorite is “Ash Wednesday Blues” – the whole CD hits the NOLA vibe spot-on. Most amazing, to me, is his sog-writing; he’s just so conversant in American/NOLA idioms, which is a feat for someone for whom English is a second language.

While a native of Sweden, Anders has been in New Orleans since a teen. I have seen him perform numerous times, and while he is an inconsistent performer, he is passionate in his music. Living Room follows his break up with Teresa Anderson, and Ash Wednesday Blues speaks of new love, and now Coming Down tells of heartache, addiction, and the love of his life. He sings from the heart, from real experiences. All I can say is Wow.
