i often find myself zoning during my waking hours, most often about records or songs that i wish i would have recorded. there’s a revolving cast of about 10-15 records that incorporate these daydreams. the main culprite is mercury rev’s deserter’s songs, and while its not my favorite record, although its in my top 10, it has a timeless quality that i think people will rediscover for years to come. its much like a daydream, which is why i often find myself thinking about it. as much of a dream like trance it can put me in, there is also a nightmarish undertone. my wife made mention, once, that she thought it sounded like childrens lullabies, only much scarier. deserter’s songs could and probably has been dissected over the past 8 years since its release, but this is truly a record that should make the listener shut up and just listen. then, listen again.
