wowza! i havent seen too many of the other lineups out there, but me thinks, and of course i am biased, you’d be hard pressed to find a better couple shows to check out while y’all are galavanting around sxsw. so with out further adieu here are the lineups to the two shows. also thanks to the sponsors, listed below, who helped make this possible. most of the bands can be found via this american music, if not their respective websites have been linked to. wednesday’s party, btw, has free torchy’s tacos!
dont know much about bloomington’s stagnant pools other than they just released this song in january. not sure if its off a forthcoming record, or what, but i dig it, quite a bit actually. oh! one thing i do know is that stagnant pools is made up of brothers enas, bryan and doug. as y’all probably know i love shoegazey dream pop stuff, and this song brings that in spades. here’s hoping to hear some more from these brothers.
as i was messing around on the youtubes today, came across this, which i sadly missed back when it was recorded almost 2 years ago. either way, its awesome and if you havent picked up the new song “generals” off their forthcoming generals, i cant recommend it enough.
holy crap! didnt know this existed! was at this show. trying to find me, now….
hey, hey! a new spiritualized record! yay! this one called sweet heart sweet light is due out on domino on 4.16. not much else to say except a new spiritualized record is never a bad thing. here be the first single…
you wanna get people’s collective mouths salivating for more? umm, make an ep as strong as athen’s the district attorney’s waiting on the calm down, give it away for free, then announce you got a full length coming out on 4.24. said record entitled, slowburner, is coming out on captains dead’s bff’s label, this is american music. oh, and theyre also playing the this is american music/captains dead sxsw tuesday kickoff party at hole in the wall.
as most of you know, or probably actually dont, but mr kurt wagner is one of my musical heros. in my eyes, the guy does no wrong, and his latest lambchop release mr. m is further proof of his brilliance. its definitely top ten material as it stands today. but it directly via merge.
i posted this about two years ago, and apparently people still love it. so im just going to go ahead and repost it just in case you missed it the first time around. it is truly comedy gold. not sure if y’all heard but musician chris reimer who worked with chad vangaalen in women and a bunch of other canadian acts, passed away today. according to his site, which is now a tribute to him, this was one of his favorite thing, and maybe it could be one of yours too… rip, chris.
apologies for bringing this up again, but they are in their final 9 days and need only about 10k to reach their goal of 55k. this is something pretty close to my heart. so, i just want to help as much as i can and if posting one more time about does any good, then well im going to do it. click here for the kickstarter site. give if you can, or maybe tell your friends. xoxo me
in my opinion, which i am sure isnt worth much, timothy showalter and his strand of oaks is one of the bands that could help transform and shape the musical landscape over the next 5-10 years. i already think he’s in the process, but again thats just me. the guy is a such a huge talent that it pains me that there arent more people listening to him. or maybe there are, and i just dont know about? either way here is recording something new entitled “spacestations” for the site shaking through, which i have never heard of, but seems pretty awesome.
