american wheeze hoarse // as far as i am concern one of the most badass songs ever laid to tape. this is a live version, but the song also appears in studio form on 1996′s sackcloth n’ ashes. if i were to pick up one 16 horsepower record it would be hoarse, and even though its live it has quite a few of their best songs.
16 horsepower "american wheeze"

American Wheeze was the first 16 Horepower song I heard, and still possibly their best. If I had to pick one 16 Horsepower album…that’s almost undoable. Maybe Sackcloth ‘n Ashes (wich has the definitive version of American Wheeze), but Low Estate is also great (especially the first released version, with Dead Run on it). Then again, Hoarse has a beautiful song on it called ‘South Pennsylvanian Waltz’, wich is also on Olden, wich is also pretty great…
I saw 16 Horspower live three times, and the third concert was the only one where they played American Wheeze. All three concerts were great, all very intense.
In april I’ll go and see Woven Hand; looking forward to it already.
Favorite tracks are Brimstone Rock and Fire Spirit (I love all that hollerin’!), but Hoarse is great from beginning to end. It’s one of only a handful of albums that I play all the way through. The VPRO Studio set that you posted here was my intro to them. That Nobody ‘Cept You cover–good LORD.
